Train services between Dundee, Fife and Edinburgh have returned to normal following earlier disruption caused by a track inspection near the Tay Bridge.
The inspection took place this morning after potential issues were identified on the line, prompting Network Rail engineers to carry out precautionary checks.
Services between Dundee and Edinburgh were temporarily suspended or delayed while teams assessed the track to ensure it was safe for trains to run.
Following a full inspection, Network Rail confirmed the line had reopened and services were gradually returning to normal by midday.
Both ScotRail and LNER thanked passengers for their patience during the disruption, which affected several key routes connecting Tayside and the capital.
A Network Rail spokesperson said that while inspections of this kind can cause short-term delays, they are essential to maintaining safety and reliability across Scotland’s rail network.
The Tay Bridge, one of the country’s most iconic railway crossings, is regularly monitored to ensure its structure and track remain in good condition, particularly during periods of changing weather.
Passengers are advised to continue checking ScotRail and LNER updates for the latest travel information, but normal services are expected to continue through the rest of the afternoon.
