EXCLUSIVE: Dundee mother and son to open new wellness destination in Broughty Ferry

A Dundee mother and son are preparing to bring a new wellness destination to the heart of Broughty Ferry, combining decades of international experience with a vision rooted firmly in their hometown.
Shelley Booth and her son Leo are behind KOMO, a boutique wellbeing space set to open above Visocchi’s on Gray Street.
The venture brings together Shelley’s 30 years of experience in health, wellbeing and personal development with Leo’s passion for branding, design and creative direction.
For Shelley, the launch marks the latest chapter in a career that has taken her around the world. From working with internationally recognised coaches and experts to exploring wellness destinations across Europe and Southeast Asia, she has spent decades studying what helps people live healthier, happier and more fulfilling lives.
Now, she hopes to bring those lessons back to Dundee through a space designed to help people slow down, reconnect and prioritise their wellbeing.
Rather than focusing solely on fitness, KOMO aims to create an environment centred around movement, community, mindset and modern approaches to health.

The project also represents a family partnership. Having grown up around his mother’s businesses, coaching programmes and international travels, Leo has played a key role in shaping KOMO’s identity, helping transform a long-held vision into a contemporary brand for a new generation.
Ahead of the opening, Dundee Culture caught up with Shelley exclusively to discuss the inspiration behind KOMO, why Broughty Ferry felt like the perfect home for the venture and what visitors can expect when the doors open.
Andrew Batchelor (AB): It’s great to talk to you Shelley! Absolutely delighted to be catching up! So you're opening a brand-new wellness space in Broughty Ferry. How exciting is it to finally share the news?
Shelley Booth (SB): It’s incredibly exciting, both professionally and personally.
I actually lived in Broughty Ferry with my mum and dad when I was younger, so there’s something very emotional and meaningful about bringing this next chapter of my journey back to the place where so much of my life began.
Over the years, I’ve built a successful global online wellness and coaching business that has allowed me to work with clients across the UK and internationally, but opening a physical wellness space here feels very different. It feels personal.
I’ve spent years travelling extensively, particularly throughout Southeast Asia, attending high-level training across the world, working with globally recognised coaches and experts, and continually investing into my own development in the areas of wellness, mindset, leadership, human performance and personal growth.
Alongside coaching, I’ve written my first book, The Power of Just Starting, built a successful international online business, developed my own range of health and wellness supplements from the ground up and even manufactured my own gym equipment.
Everything I’ve built has come from vision, growth and a deep understanding of what helps people improve their lives physically, mentally and emotionally.
Now, I want to bring all of that experience, knowledge and energy back home to Dundee.

AB: You've built a successful online business with clients around the world. Why was it important for you to bring this next chapter back home to Dundee?
SB: Because Dundee is where my journey began, and I’ve always believed there’s something incredibly important about giving back to the community that shaped you.
Before building my online business, I was the owner of the popular gym Train Eat Sleep Repeat, and one of the biggest things I learned during that chapter of my life was the power of connection and community.
People obviously came for fitness and transformation physically, but what made that space special was the atmosphere, the energy and the relationships that were built there. It became somewhere people genuinely loved being.
Years ago, I also used to run beach boot camps all year round on Broughty Ferry Beach, where there were times when 70 to 80 people would turn up to train together in all weather conditions.
That level of camaraderie, connection and shared experience is incredibly special, and now, with another decade of experience, learning, leadership and innovation within the wellness industry behind me, I want to recreate and evolve that feeling in an even more elevated and intentional way through this new wellness space.

AB: Why did the space above Visocchi feel like the right fit for this new venture?
SB: The space immediately aligned with the vision I had for the business.
The space itself is beautiful. It’s light, bright and airy, with an energy that instantly makes you feel uplifted the moment you walk in.
Being situated in such a bustling hotspot within Broughty Ferry also felt really important to me because there’s already such a strong sense of life, movement and community around it.
Visocchi’s itself is a local iconic institution that so many of us have grown up with. My mum and auntie both worked there when they were younger, so there’s something incredibly nostalgic and meaningful about opening this new chapter above a place that’s so deeply woven into the history and identity of Broughty Ferry.
Through travelling internationally and experiencing some of the world’s leading wellness environments, I became very aware that atmosphere, design and energy play a huge role in how people feel.
That’s why this won’t just be a wellness studio. It’s being designed as an experience - modern, clean, contemporary and aspirational, while still feeling welcoming and deeply human at the same time.

AB: Can you tell us more about what people can expect from the wellness space once it opens?
SB: People can expect a completely modern approach to wellness - one that supports the mind, body and nervous system as a whole.
This won’t simply be a fitness space or a traditional studio. The vision is to create an elevated wellness experience that helps people feel healthier, calmer, stronger, more energised and more connected within themselves and with others.
There will be a strong focus on movement, mindset, nervous system regulation, breathwork and community-led wellbeing experiences.
The space itself will reflect everything I’ve learned through years of travelling, business, coaching and advanced training internationally.
I want people to walk through the doors and immediately feel a shift. Less stress. Less noise. More clarity. More calm. More connection.

AB: What influences from working around the world have helped you shape your vision for a new Dundee venture?
SB: Travelling extensively and learning from people operating at the highest levels in wellness, mindset, business and human performance has completely shaped my perspective.
I’ve spent years investing heavily into my own growth - attending advanced training internationally, working alongside globally recognised coaches and experts, studying human behaviour, leadership, mindset and personal transformation, and immersing myself in wellness cultures around the world, particularly throughout Southeast Asia.
One of the biggest influences for me personally has been attending multiple live Tony Robbins events around the world. Being in those environments and experiencing the energy in the room had a huge impact on how I view leadership, mindset and human potential.
Fun fact - I actually met Tony in person once and got one of his famous giant hugs, which was definitely a memorable moment.
I’ve always been deeply driven by growth, innovation and mastery.
Whether that was writing my first book, building a successful global online business, creating my own supplement range from scratch or manufacturing my own gym equipment, every project has come from wanting to create something with real quality, intention and impact.
Many people initially came to me for health, fitness or confidence, but through watching my entrepreneurial journey, they actually discovered a completely different side of themselves.
Many have gone on to start businesses, build personal brands and unlock entrepreneurial ambition they didn’t even realise they had.

AB: Wellness and self-care have become a huge focus for many people in recent years. What do you think Dundee is currently missing in that space?
SB: I think people today are looking for a wellness experience that reflects the reality of modern life.
People want spaces that feel elevated, calming, inspiring and beautifully designed - but at the same time genuinely restorative and meaningful.
We are living in a world where people are constantly switched on. Constant stimulation, constant pressure, constant distraction.
Over time that creates nervous system dysregulation, burnout, fatigue and emotional exhaustion.
That’s why this space is about much more than fitness or aesthetics. It’s about creating an environment that helps people reset mentally, emotionally and physically.
I’m also incredibly interested in where the future of wellness is going.
Advancements in medtech, longevity science, technology, data analysis and AI-driven health optimisation are changing the way we understand the body, stress, performance and ageing.
I believe the future of wellness is going to be a blend of human connection, nervous system regulation, education, preventative health and intelligent technology working together to help people not only live longer, but live better.

AB: How important is it for you that this becomes a real community space within Broughty Ferry?
SB: It’s absolutely central to the vision.
Throughout my career, one of the most powerful things I’ve witnessed is the impact that community and support can have on people’s confidence, wellbeing and long-term success.
I experienced that years ago through the beach boot camps and group training sessions we used to run around Broughty Ferry. There were times when 70 to 80 people would turn up to train together in all weather conditions, pushing themselves physically and mentally while building incredible friendships and connections along the way.
That level of camaraderie, connection and shared experience is something very special, and now, with another decade of experience and leadership within the wellness industry behind me, I want to recreate that feeling in an even more elevated, intentional and impactful way.
I want people to feel like this is their space. Somewhere they can come to recharge, reconnect, grow and feel inspired alongside other people who also want to improve their lives.

AB: Finally, what excites you most about officially opening the doors and welcoming people into the space for the first time?
SB: What excites me most is seeing people experience the environment and the feeling the space is designed to create.
Everything I’ve built over the years - from my coaching business to writing my book, developing my own supplement range, manufacturing gym equipment, travelling the world and attending advanced training internationally - has all contributed to the vision I now have for this space.
I want people to feel inspired the second they walk in. I want them to feel calmer, clearer, more energised and more connected to themselves.
I also can’t wait to start opening the space up to the community through a series of exclusive open days and evening experiences where people will be able to come in, experience the atmosphere and truly feel what we’re creating.
I think once people step inside the space, they’ll immediately understand that this is something very different.
For me, success isn’t simply opening the doors. Success is creating something that genuinely improves people’s lives and becomes part of the fabric of the local community.
As preparations continue ahead of the opening, Shelley hopes KOMO will become more than simply a wellness space. Instead, she wants it to become a place where people can step away from the demands of everyday life, reconnect with themselves and build meaningful connections with others.
Drawing on three decades of experience, international travel and a lifelong passion for helping people improve their lives, she believes the time is right to bring something different to Broughty Ferry - a destination shaped by global inspiration but firmly rooted in Dundee.
Shelley said: “After 30 years exploring health, wellbeing and human potential around the world, I’ve learned that what people need most isn’t more noise, more pressure or more demands on their time.
“They need space.
