The Wellgate Clock will remain at the proposed new Wellgate campus by Dundee and Angus College, the Courier reports.
Principal Simon Hewitt stated that the college would be more than happy to keep the clock but stressed that other institutions and organisations could look to find a new home for the beloved timepiece.
The Wellgate Clock has been a prominent feature of the shopping centre since its installation in September 1978, five months after the Wellgate Shopping Centre opened.
Simon continued by stating that the clock could move to the lower level of the campus as classes would be on the upper levels of the planned campus.
Many have suggested that if the Wellgate was demolished, then the clock could be moved to the McManus Galleries or another public institution, but it appears that the clock is here to stay at its home.
The discussion comes as Dundee and Angus College announced plans for a takeover of the Wellgate Centre as part of a ten year plan to reinvent the college.
