Laura Muir made a triumphant return to domestic cross country competition on Saturday, taking gold at the Lindsays National Cross Country Championships in Falkirk.
Competing at Callendar Park for the first time in 14 years, she delivered a powerful performance to win the senior women’s 10km title.
Representing her original club, Dundee Hawkhill Harriers, Muir crossed the finish line 13 seconds clear of her nearest rival in challenging, muddy conditions. The course tested athletes from the start, but the Dundee runner controlled the race and showed her class over the longer distance.
It was a special moment for the 1500m star, who first tasted national success at the same venue as an under-20 athlete more than a decade ago. Pulling on the Dundee Hawkhill vest once again, she highlighted her strong ties to the club that helped shape her early career.
The race also featured world-class mountain runner Scout Adkin, adding further quality to the field. However, Muir’s strength and experience proved decisive as she powered away in the latter stages to secure victory.
After the race, Muir described the 10km as the longest event of her professional career and admitted it felt like stepping into the unknown. Despite that, she expressed delight at coming through the test with a gold medal and showing that she remains a force across different disciplines.
For Dundee Hawkhill Harriers, the result is a source of huge pride. Seeing one of Scotland’s most decorated athletes return to her roots and win on the national stage is a reminder of the club’s enduring impact on the country’s athletics scene.
