Eilish McColgan hints at 2030 CWG return under one condition

Eilish McColgan may not have been able to compete in the Commonwealth Games due to injury, but the Dundee athlete has hinted at a potentially representing Team Scotland in the future under one condition.
She has expressed interest in returning for the 2030 Games in Ahmedabad, should the marathon be included in the programme.
McColgan won gold in the 10,000m at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in 2022. She had hoped to defend her title in Glasgow, but a stress fracture sustained during the London Marathon has ruled her out of this year’s event. The 33-year-old had been preparing to compete in front of a home crowd again.
McColgan’s Commonwealth Games career began as a steeplechase finalist in Glasgow in 2014 and reached a high point with her gold medal eight years later. Despite her current setback, she has not ruled out a return if the marathon features in the 2030 schedule.
Away from competition, McColgan welcomed Glasgow stepping in to host the Games at short notice.
She believes the city has demonstrated that major sporting events can succeed without large budgets or new facilities. McColgan hopes this approach will encourage future hosts and support the Commonwealth Games’ future.
For McColgan, the Commonwealth Games represent an important opportunity for Scottish athletes and young competitors. As she continues her recovery and looks ahead to future marathon events, she has not ruled out another appearance for Team Scotland.
