Dundee has been recognised as one of the best cities to visit in the UK in a new feature published by The Independent in partnership with Railcard.
Highlighting destinations ideal for train travellers, Dundee stood out as the only Scottish city included on the list.
The article celebrates Dundee’s mix of heritage, creativity, and innovation, with a special focus on the city’s designation as the UK’s only UNESCO City of Design.
The Independent states that the accolade reflects both its historical contributions - including the pioneering of aspirin and invention of marmalade, The Beano and Dandy comics, and the globally renowned Grand Theft Auto video game - and its ongoing cultural energy.
Among the attractions highlighted were the McManus Art Gallery & Museum, Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA), Dundee Science Centre, Verdant Works, and the V&A Dundee.
Each venue offers a different slice of the city’s story, from its industrial past to its thriving art and design scene.
The V&A Dundee, in particular, was praised for its striking architecture and unique role as Scotland’s first design museum.
Also noted was the city’s growing collection of public art, with “hundreds of pieces” found throughout streets and neighbourhoods.
The piece encouraged visitors to explore Dundee’s Cultural Quarter and enjoy the city’s vibrant mix of museums, galleries, cafés, and restaurants.
Dundee’s central railway station was highlighted as the gateway to all of these experiences, located just minutes from the waterfront and city centre attractions.
The recognition comes as a boost for the city as it continues to develop its visitor economy and cultural profile across the UK and beyond.
This latest recognition adds to a string of positive press for Dundee in recent years, reinforcing its reputation as a rising star among UK city destinations.
