A beautiful new mural has been unveiled in the heart of Lochee, celebrating some of the area’s most recognisable landmarks.

The artwork, painted by local artist Douglas Roulston, depicts Balgay Bridge alongside the historic Cox’s Stack and Camperdown Works’ High Mill, offering a striking tribute to the area’s industrial and natural heritage.

The mural was commissioned by the Lochee Residents & Tenants Group with support from the Lochee Community Regeneration Fund. Three designs were originally put forward for consideration, with Roulston’s final concept chosen by public vote.

Initially planned as a generic landscape, the piece was later adapted to highlight Balgay Bridge near Lochee Park, creating a scene that connects closely with the community’s surroundings.

Installed at the junction between Bank Street and the High Street, the mural has quickly become a popular talking point among locals and visitors alike. Its vivid colours and detailed brushwork capture the beauty of Lochee’s past while reflecting the vibrancy of its present-day regeneration.

Artist Douglas Roulston, known for his sweeping depictions of Scottish landscapes and landmarks, has added another captivating piece to Dundee’s growing public art trail. His work across the city continues to bring stories of place and identity to life through bold, imaginative visuals.

The new mural is seen as a positive symbol for Lochee’s future, merging art, history and community pride in one powerful image. With projects like this, Dundee’s tradition of creativity and local collaboration continues to shine brightly across its neighbourhoods
