A huge Danish naval warship has arrived in Dundee, creating an impressive sight along the city’s waterfront.

Currently docked at the Port of Dundee is HDMS Esbern Snare, one of the largest and most versatile vessels operated by the Royal Danish Navy. The ship was photographed during its visit by local photographer Kuljit Athwal.

At almost 138 metres in length, the vessel is hard to miss and stands out among the ships currently visiting the city. Commissioned in 2007, HDMS Esbern Snare has travelled extensively during its service, taking part in a range of international operations around the world.

The warship has been involved in anti-piracy missions, maritime security operations and military exercises alongside NATO allies. Most recently, the vessel has been operating in the North Atlantic as part of a major NATO exercise involving several allied nations.

Its arrival in Dundee highlights the city’s continuing importance as a working port capable of welcoming large international vessels from across the globe.

While military ships are not a common sight in the city, the visit has already attracted attention from residents and visitors at the waterfront.
