Rare footage of Dundee jute mill workers brought back to life at Verdant Works
An incredible piece of Dundee’s jute history has been brought back to life at Verdant Works!
Rare footage filmed inside Lower Pleasance Works during the 1980s captures Dundee jute workers going about their working day, offering a fascinating glimpse into the people behind an industry which shaped our city.
The footage was filmed by mill worker Alfie Fleming and later preserved by Dundee filmmaker Willie Hoolahan.
Willie has spent the past decade sharing old footage of Dundee on his YouTube channel, Hooly Dundee, documenting everything from lost buildings to the transformation of the waterfront.
The film was rediscovered by Verdant Works while searching for material connected to its 30th anniversary celebrations, giving this remarkable piece of Dundee history a new lease of life.
Thirty years after Verdant Works opened, new pieces of our jute story are still being uncovered - sometimes in the most unexpected places!
