Two Dundee Rep productions nominated for prestigious UK Theatre Awards
Two productions involving Dundee Rep Theatre have been nominated for prestigious UK Theatre Awards, recognising some of the best theatre created across the country over the past year.
The Singer has been shortlisted for Best Design, while The High Life – The Musical is in the running for Best Musical Production at the 2026 awards.
The Best Design nomination for The Singer recognises the work of Jenny Booth for set and costume design, Garry Boyle for sound design, Daniel Hughes for creative captioning and Emma Jones for lighting design. The production is a Dundee Rep and Solar Bear co-production in association with Aberdeen Performing Arts.
Written and directed by Cora Bissett with music and lyrics by KT Tunstall, The Singer tells the story of deaf artist Joe and musician Andy, exploring music, identity, ambition and the fight to be heard. Performed in BSL and English with captions throughout, accessibility is embedded within the production itself.
The nomination comes just days before The Singer returns to Dundee Rep from Wednesday 23 until Saturday 26 September, following performances in Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Glasgow.
Meanwhile, The High Life – The Musical has been nominated for Best Musical Production following its Scottish tour earlier this year. The National Theatre of Scotland and Dundee Rep co-production, in association with Aberdeen Performing Arts and Capital Theatres, brought the cult television comedy back with original stars Alan Cumming, Forbes Masson, Siobhan Redmond and Patrick Ryecart.
Written by Alan Cumming, Forbes Masson and Johnny McKnight, with original music by Masson and Cumming and direction from Andrew Panton, the musical opened at Dundee Rep before touring venues across Scotland.
The nominations provide another major national recognition for work connected to Dundee Rep, with the winners set to be announced at the UK Theatre Awards ceremony in London on Monday 12 October.
