New details have emerged on Dundee’s first ever IKEA, with the global furniture brand investing £80,000 to refit its unit at Kingsway West Retail Park.

According to an application sent in through Dundee City Council’s planning portal, the refit will involve internal modifications, safety improvements and roofing changes to prepare the building for its new use.

The work will transform the former Harveys Furniture site into a “order and collection point” store – a smaller IKEA concept that focuses on design advice and tailored support for kitchens, bedrooms and living spaces.

It marks another step forward for the project after planning permission for new signage was granted earlier this year.

Unlike the flagship Scottish IKEA stores in Glasgow or Edinburgh, the Dundee shop will serve as a dedicated hub where customers can plan, order, and arrange delivery or collection for furniture and homeware.

While no opening date has been confirmed, the investment signals that preparations are well under way to bring the long-awaited IKEA presence to Dundee.
