Dundee and surrounding areas are under a thunderstorm warning this evening after the Met Office issued a yellow weather alert covering parts of eastern Scotland.
The warning is now in effect and remains in place until 10pm, with forecasters warning that thunderstorms could bring heavy downpours, lightning and difficult travelling conditions in some areas.
While not every location within the warning area will experience a thunderstorm, those that do could see sudden bursts of intense rainfall in a short period of time. The Met Office has also highlighted the possibility of localised flooding, spray on roads and temporary disruption to travel.
The warning comes after a warm and humid day across the region, with temperatures reaching around 20°C in Dundee. These conditions can provide the perfect ingredients for thunderstorms to develop during the afternoon and evening.
Residents are being advised to keep an eye on the latest forecasts and take extra care if travelling during periods of heavy rain or thunderstorms.
Weather warnings are issued by the Met Office when there is an increased risk of impacts from severe weather, helping communities prepare for changing conditions.
The thunderstorm warning remains in place until 10pm tonight.
