As the leaves turn golden and the air grows crisp, Dundee becomes the perfect city for an autumn walk.

From historic parks to hidden nature spots, the city is full of places where you can soak up the colours of the season.

Whether you’re after a peaceful stroll or a scenic escape, here are five of the best autumnal walks in Dundee.

Balgay Park

Balgay Park is one of the city’s most beautiful spots in autumn. Its tree-lined paths are a blaze of red and gold, making every step feel like walking through a painting.

A wander up Balgay Hill rewards you with stunning views across Dundee and the River Tay, while the mix of woodland and open grassland offers plenty of variety along the way.

For a riverside stroll, Magdalen Green is a classic choice. Dundee’s oldest park is transformed at this time of year, with its wide lawns framed by trees in fiery colours.

The Victorian bandstand makes a striking centrepiece, while the Tay Rail Bridge provides a dramatic backdrop as the sun sets earlier in the evenings. It’s a perfect place to slow down and take in the season.

Trottick Mill Ponds is one of Dundee’s hidden gems, especially in autumn. Tucked away in the north of the city, it’s a haven for wildlife and a peaceful escape from busy streets.

The ponds reflect the copper and amber tones of the surrounding trees, while ducks and swans glide gently across the water. It’s a quiet and scenic walk that feels worlds away from the city.

Dawson Park

In the east of Dundee, Dawson Park becomes a carpet of russet leaves as autumn settles in. The mature tree avenues put on a spectacular display, and the wide open spaces make it a great spot for both walkers and families.

The contrast between its manicured lawns and the natural beauty of the season gives the park a unique charm during these months.

Baxter Park

Finally, Baxter Park is a must-visit when the leaves begin to fall. Designed by the famous Victorian gardener Sir Joseph Paxton, the park is a masterpiece of landscaping.

The grand pavilion looks out over sweeping paths lined with trees that turn brilliant shades of orange and red. Whether you’re enjoying a brisk walk or simply sitting to watch the world go by, Baxter Park captures autumn at its finest.
