The ZX Spectrum is gaining further attention this month as the screening of a new documentary as well as a new recreation of the iconic games computer from Retro Games release this month.
Today sees the premiere of Rubber-Keyed Wonder, a documentary celebrating the story of the ZX Spectrum which was manufactured in Dundee back in the 1980s.
Retro Games are also releasing a new version of the ZX Spectrum, simply titled “The Spectrum” which is available to purchase this month. The games computer’s re-release was announced in August.
The BBC recently featured the ZX Spectrum in a piece on its history with Dundee, with a lookback on the Timex workers manufacturing what was once Britain’s best selling computer.
The ZX Spectrum continues to be popular among video game lovers and has even made it into popular culture, with Scott Pilgrim vs. The World featuring the start up sound effects of the Spectrum as censor bar sound effects in the film.
Rubber-Keyed Wonder is premiering at the Dundee Contemporary Arts from 4.30pm today.
