Dundee Fringe gets underway today with ten days of shows across the city
The Dundee Fringe officially gets underway today, kicking off ten days of comedy, theatre, music and entertainment across the city.
Returning for its sixth year, the festival runs from today, Friday 11 September, until Sunday 20 September, bringing together homegrown Dundee talent alongside performers from across the UK and further afield.
Shows will take place across five performance spaces at two of Dundee’s much-loved cultural venues - Sweet @ The Steps Theatre inside Dundee Central Library and the Little Theatre.
The programme includes everything from comedy and theatre to music, workshops, cabaret, variety and children’s shows, with performances aimed at audiences of all ages.
Dundee Fringe has continued to grow since it was first established and has now become a regular fixture in the city’s events calendar. As well as giving performers a platform, organisers hope the festival will bring more people into the city centre and encourage audiences to support other local businesses while attending shows.
Ahead of the festival getting underway, Dundee City Council’s City Growth and Infrastructure convener Councillor Steven Rome and Neighbourhood, Housing and Communities depute convener Councillor Lynne Short met Dundee Fringe artistic director JD Henshaw alongside performers Poppy Bubbles, Lynne Campbell and Erin Farley.
Councillor Rome said: “It’s fantastic to see the Dundee Fringe return for its sixth year. It looks set to be another brilliant couple of weeks celebrating theatre, comedy, the arts and the fantastic talent on show.
“Events like this are a real asset to our city, bringing visitors into Dundee, supporting local businesses and giving a welcome boost to our local economy.”
Councillor Lynne Short encouraged Dundonians to get behind the festival, adding: “We have so much creativity and talent in our city and the Dundee Fringe is a great platform to showcase it.
“It should be a fantastic event and I hope people get out and support it by getting along to at least one show, or even a few!”
Dundee Fringe founder JD Henshaw said the team was proud to once again showcase local performers while welcoming acts from elsewhere to the city.
He said: “It is an immense privilege to be bringing our sixth edition of Dundee Fringe to the city - as a homegrown festival, it means the absolute world to welcome our amazing audiences to shows made both here and beyond the city limits.”
With the stages now ready and more than a week of performances ahead, Dundee Fringe 2026 begins today and runs until 20 September.
