The new two-storey cafe at Seabraes has been given the green light to go ahead

Dundee City Council has approved a proposal to transform a category B listed former public toilet building on Perth Road into a two-storey café with access to Seabraes Park.

The site, located in the University Conservation Area, has been closed since the 1990s and fallen into disrepair.

The approved plans aim to revitalise the neglected site with a café featuring large south- and west-facing windows and 18 seats on the street level.

The basement will add seating for 26, along with essential facilities, and an outdoor deck will provide space for an additional 20 seats, creating a direct connection between the café, park, and street.

The council highlighted the project’s potential to “support the vibrancy, vitality, and viability of the area,” and the decision allows work to begin on a design that preserves key decorative features while introducing a modern addition to the local streetscape.
