A major milestone has been reached for one of Dundee’s most historic landmarks – the HMS Unicorn.
The next phase of Project Safe Haven has officially been given the green light, paving the way for the ship’s long-term preservation.
The project will see the 200-year-old vessel moved to the nearby East Graving Dock, where it will sit as the centrepiece of a new, purpose-built visitor centre. This marks a key step not only in protecting the ship but also in revitalising City Quay as a cultural and heritage destination.
In a statement shared in their latest newsletter, HMS Unicorn said:
“With all permissions now in place, preparations are underway to carry out more vital work needed to protect and preserve this extraordinary ship for future generations.”
This is a significant moment in the ship’s history, ensuring the Unicorn remains part of Dundee’s story for years to come – and it promises to bring new energy and opportunity to the waterfront.
