The Dundee Museum of Transport has announced a significant expansion of its archive collection, thanks to a wave of generous public donations featuring rare and evocative photographs of Dundee’s past.
The newly acquired images capture the city’s rich transport heritage, showcasing long-lost trams, classic buses, vintage cars, and bustling street scenes from decades gone by.
These photos offer a window into Dundee’s evolution, highlighting how its streets, vehicles, and communities have changed over time.
The museum team expressed their gratitude to members of the public who have come forward with personal collections and snapshots.

The donations will play a key role in the museum’s long-term goal of preserving Dundee’s transport story and making it accessible to visitors, researchers, and future generations.
Taking to their socials, Dundee Museum of Transport said:
“We’re growing our archive collection with some incredible and generous donations of old photographs featuring Dundee’s historic trams, buses, cars and everyday street life.
These snapshots offer a fascinating glimpse into the city’s transport past – from the early tramlines weaving through the heart of Dundee to the vibrant scenes of local buses and vintage cars that once filled the streets.
Every image tells a story, helping us preserve and celebrate our city’s rich transport heritage for future generations.”
The expansion of the archive comes at an exciting time for the Dundee Museum of Transport, which is preparing for its future relocation to the historic Maryfield tram depot – a move that will allow even more space to showcase Dundee’s transport past and present.
