Dundee bookshop owner to hide 750 free children’s books across the city

Families across Dundee are being invited to take part in a city-wide treasure hunt later this month.

More than 750 free children’s books are set to be hidden in parks and green spaces for youngsters to discover.

The Big Dundee Book Hunt, organised by Amy Lorente from Little Leaves Bookshop, will take place on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August.

Over the course of the weekend, hundreds of children’s books will be hidden in playparks and green spaces across the city, giving children the chance to find a book, take it home and keep it.

The initiative has been launched as part of this year’s National Year of Reading, which encourages people of all ages to discover the enjoyment of books and storytelling.

Amy, who runs the mobile community-focused business, said she wanted to create a fun community event that would inspire more children to read while bringing families outdoors to explore their local parks.

Families are encouraged to keep an eye on Little Leaves Bookshop’s social media channels for updates throughout the weekend as the hunt gets underway.

The locations of the participating parks and green spaces will be announced on Friday 14 August.

With more than 750 books waiting to be discovered, organisers hope the event will encourage children to develop a lifelong love of reading while creating a memorable family adventure across Dundee.
