Storm Floris: Strong winds and heavy rain are set to batter Dundee early next week

ree

Dundee is bracing for a bout of severe weather early next week as Storm Floris moves in from the Atlantic, bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall to the city and surrounding areas.

The storm is expected to arrive on Monday morning and continue into early Tuesday, potentially causing disruption across Tayside and much of northern Scotland. Winds are expected to reach up to 55mph.

Forecasters say the winds could be particularly damaging, with gusts strong enough to blow tiles from roofs and send debris flying.

People are being urged to stay alert, especially in open or coastal areas, where waves may crash over sea walls and send beach material onto nearby roads and buildings.

The Met Office has issued a warning that injuries and even danger to life are possible in the worst-hit spots, particularly from flying debris and rough seas. Power cuts may also occur, which could impact mobile phone coverage and other essential services.

Travellers are being advised to check ahead before setting off, as road, rail, air and ferry services may all be affected.

Some bridges and roads could close temporarily if conditions worsen, and longer journey times or cancellations are likely.

Local authorities and emergency services are preparing for the storm, while urging residents to take precautions.

This includes securing loose items in gardens, avoiding unnecessary travel, and keeping away from exposed coastal paths or promenades.

Although the worst of the weather is expected to pass by Tuesday morning, lingering gusts and wet conditions could still cause issues into the day. Officials say they will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as the storm develops.
