Dundee and the wider Tayside area were treated to a special sight in the skies as a Spitfire took part in a commemorative flight between RAF Leuchars and RAF Lossiemouth.

The flight marked part of the 90th anniversary celebrations of the iconic aircraft, with aviation fans and residents alike looking up to catch a glimpse as the planes passed overhead. The route between the two RAF bases brought the historic aircraft directly across the region, creating a memorable moment for many.

Images shared with Dundee Culture by local photographer Neil Kennedy captured the Spitfire in motion, highlighting both its elegance and the lasting legacy they hold. The aircraft remains one of the most recognisable symbols of British aviation history.

RAF Leuchars, located just outside Dundee, has long played a role in military aviation, and the connection to such a significant anniversary added further meaning to the event for the local community.

The Spitfire first took to the skies in 1936 and went on to play a vital role during the Second World War.

It was a rare opportunity to see these aircraft in action - and a moment that brought both history and community together under the same skies.
