Now, he has turned his attention to Scotland – attempting to travel the full length of the River Tay without ever leaving its waters.

His self-imposed rule is simple: Ed must remain within the river’s flow from its Highland source to the North Sea. That means constructing makeshift rafts, paddling improvised vessels, and even lashing together logs to keep moving downstream.

Each update he shares online shows the highs and lows of this bold experiment, drawing in thousands who are following his progress in real time.

River Tay is ‘the lifeblood of Dundee’

The River Tay begins in the Highlands, winds through Perthshire, and finally flows through Dundee before emptying into the North Sea. For Dundee, the Tay has always been more than a landmark – it is the city’s lifeblood.

From the whaling ships and industries of the past to today’s glimmering V&A Dundee on the waterfront, the river has shaped the city’s story.

Ed’s challenge is shining fresh light on this powerful waterway. His expected arrival in Dundee later in the journey promises to be a highlight, not only marking a major milestone in his expedition but also celebrating the city’s deep connection with the Tay.

For locals, the moment his raft drifts beneath the Tay Road Bridge could become an unforgettable sight.

The challenge of the Tay

The Tay is famous for both its beauty and its power. From the fast-moving rapids of Perthshire to the vast, tidal stretch approaching Dundee, every section poses unique obstacles.

Thousands of social media users are following Ed’s progress eagerly, waiting to see how he tackles the mighty river’s final leg into Dundee and onward to the sea.

As Ed Pratt presses on towards the city and beyond, the River Tay is once again in the spotlight. His challenge not only showcases his adventurous spirit but also highlights the enduring importance of Scotland’s greatest river – flowing right through the heart of Dundee before it meets the North Sea.

Good luck, Ed – Dundee is ready to cheer you on!!
