A century after it was first unveiled, the Dundee Law War Memorial has undergone a major restoration, ensuring it stands proudly for future generations as a place of remembrance.
Marking its 100th anniversary, a special rededication ceremony was held at the summit of Dundee Law, attended by Lord Provost Bill Campbell, military veterans, and other dignitaries.
The event honoured not only the monument’s enduring legacy but also the city’s commitment to preserving its history.
The extensive refurbishment project, supported by Dundee City Council and the War Memorials Trust, involved careful cleaning of the monument’s stonework using a specialist steam technique.
Damaged areas were repaired, and the entire structure was repointed to ensure its long-term stability.
A key part of the renovation included the replacement of the old lighting system with modern, energy-efficient LED feature lighting.
Additionally, the gas system powering the memorial’s symbolic living flame was fully reinstated, allowing the flame to burn once again during key commemorative events.
With these upgrades, the war memorial will now be illuminated during the evening hours and on significant dates such as the anniversary of the Battle of Loos—offering a renewed and respectful presence on Dundee’s skyline.
