A long-shuttered Dundee pub could soon be brought back to life, as ambitious plans are unveiled for a major makeover of Charlie’s Bar in Menzieshill.

Closed since Storm Arwen battered the city in 2021, the venue is now at the centre of a six-figure investment aimed at transforming it into a revitalised community hub.

The new proposals outline a full refurbishment of the building, which will include the creation of a beer garden and the addition of a convenience store within the premises.

The project is being spearheaded by City Centre Pubs Dundee, a local firm run by the Marr family, who are keen to breathe new life into the much-missed pub.

Architects LJRH have released visualisations showing a modern, welcoming venue that retains its community roots while offering updated facilities.

The images reveal a fresh new exterior, upgraded interiors, and landscaped outdoor areas designed to appeal to both regulars and new visitors.

Charlie’s Bar has remained empty since suffering damage during Storm Arwen, which brought severe winds and disruption across Tayside.

Since then, locals have expressed a desire to see the building restored and reopened, highlighting the pub’s historical importance to the neighbourhood.

With the addition of a shop, the revamped venue would serve a dual purpose – offering both social and practical benefits to the area.

The convenience store element is expected to provide everyday essentials to residents, particularly those who may not have easy access to larger supermarkets.

The Marr family’s plans reflect a growing trend of reimagining former pubs for modern-day use while maintaining their original spirit.

If approved, the project could not only preserve a well-known local landmark but also contribute to the ongoing regeneration of Menzieshill.

A timeline for the refurbishment has not yet been confirmed, but the proposals are expected to move forward later this year, subject to planning approval.
