One of Dundee’s most beloved food spots, The Shack Street Food, is entering a new chapter with extended weekday opening hours and a hint of festive treats to come.
Run by the ever-inspiring Gill Young, The Shack has been serving up hearty comfort food from its cosy Isla Street home since 2016. Known for its warm atmosphere, flavour-packed dishes and Gill’s infectious personality, the eatery has become a local favourite among Dundonians seeking good food and even better company.
Gill recently shared that The Shack will now open Monday to Friday until 6pm, giving fans more time to enjoy their favourites after work. However, weekends will now see the shutters down as Gill takes a step back to recharge and refocus after what’s been an emotional time, following the loss of her mum, affectionally known as the Gov'ner.
It’s a decision that reflects Gill’s strength and resilience — qualities that have defined her journey since day one. She continues to pour her heart into every dish, making The Shack a true reflection of her love for the community and the people who support her.
Alongside the extended hours, Gill also teased a brand-new festive addition to the menu: festive fries. While details are still under wraps, fans are already eager to see what delicious twist she has in store for the holiday season.
For those who’ve followed The Shack’s story, this latest update feels like a celebration of perseverance and passion. It’s a reminder of how food can bring people together — and how one woman’s warmth and determination can turn a small street food stall into one of Dundee’s most cherished gems.
Whether you’re a long-time fan or a first-time visitor, The Shack’s doors are open, the grill is sizzling, and Gill is ready to welcome you with that trademark smile and a plate full of something special.
