Popular American fast-food chain Popeyes is eyeing up Dundee for its next Scottish restaurant.
A new planning application submitted to Dundee City Council reveals plans to transform the former Pizza Hut unit at Kingsway West Retail Park into the city’s first Popeyes.
The Louisiana-style chicken brand, known for its crispy fried chicken sandwiches and southern-inspired menu, has been expanding rapidly across the UK since arriving in 2021.
Popeyes already operates restaurants in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen.
If approved, the Dundee branch would mark a major milestone for the city’s growing food scene, bringing another globally recognised name to the area. The proposed site, located near Tenpin Dundee and Tesco, would be ideally placed to attract shoppers and passing traffic from the busy Kingsway corridor.
Popeyes has gained a loyal following for its signature spicy chicken, biscuits, and cajun fries, with social media often buzzing about its long lines and limited-time specials.
Its UK rollout has seen the company open more than 50 outlets, with plans for dozens more in the coming years.
While the planning application confirms Popeyes’ interest in the site, an official opening date has not yet been proposed.
If given the green light, Dundee diners could soon be sampling the brand’s famous Louisiana flavours for the first time.
