Ncuti Gatwa has been confirmed as the host of the final episode of Saturday Night Live UK’s first season which will air on 16 May.

The actor, who started his career in Dundee, began his journey at Dundee Rep Theatre, will lead the highly anticipated finale of the iconic show’s UK debut.

Gatwa’s rise to global fame began with his breakout role in the Netflix series Sex Education, where he played Eric Effiong. The performance earned widespread praise and quickly made him one of the show’s standout stars, opening the door to major opportunities in television and film.

He went on to reach an even bigger audience after being cast as the Fifteenth Doctor in Doctor Who from 2023 until 2025, becoming one of the most recognisable faces on British television. His portrayal has brought a fresh energy to the long-running series and cemented his place as one of the UK’s leading actors.

Despite his international success, Gatwa’s roots in Dundee remain an important part of his story. He trained and performed at Dundee Rep Theatre, where he built the foundations of his career before moving into screen acting. His journey continues to be a source of pride for the city.

Saturday Night Live UK launched earlier this year, introducing the famous late-night comedy format to British audiences for the first time. The show is based on the long-running American series Saturday Night Live, which first aired in 1975 and became a cultural phenomenon known for its live sketches, celebrity hosts and musical guests.

The UK version has aimed to recreate that success with a British twist, bringing together established comedians and rising talent. Throughout its first season, it has generated strong interest, particularly on social media, with several sketches gaining traction online and helping to build a growing audience.

While reviews have been mixed at times, the show has steadily found its footing as the season progressed. Viewers have responded well to its live format and topical humour, with producers continuing to refine the balance between traditional sketch comedy and a more modern, digital-friendly approach.

Producers have suggested the final episode will include major sketches and surprise appearances, with Gatwa’s comedic background making him a natural fit. His experience in both drama and humour, particularly from Sex Education, is likely to play a key role in shaping the night.

All eyes will be on Gatwa to deliver a memorable finale and help set the tone for the future of Saturday Night Live UK.
