One of Britain’s most recognisable documentary makers is set to visit Dundee this year as Louis Theroux prepares to take to the stage at Caird Hall for a special live event.

The event takes place on 21 May, with a Dundee audience invited to hear directly from the journalist and filmmaker during an intimate live conversation.

The event, titled An Evening with Louis Theroux, will see the award-winning broadcaster reflect on the key moments that shaped his career. Speaking live on stage, he will share stories from behind the scenes of his most well-known documentaries and discuss the experiences that surprised and challenged him during filming.

Theroux has travelled across the world meeting people living on the edges of society, creating documentaries that explore complex social issues and unusual communities. Now, for one night only,

Guests attending the evening can expect a mix of thoughtful insight and humour, as Theroux explores the craft of documentary storytelling and the approach that has made his work distinctive. His style of engaging with subjects through curiosity and empathy has helped him build a reputation for creating balanced portraits of people involved in complex human stories.

About Louis

Theroux began his television career in the mid-1990s after graduating from Oxford, working with American filmmaker Michael Moore on the programme TV Nation. He later went on to create the BAFTA-winning series Louis Theroux’s Weird Weekends and When Louis Met…, along with widely discussed documentaries including The Most Hated Family in America, Miami Mega Jail and My Scientology Movie.

Doug Taylor, Programming Manager at Caird Hall, said the event is expected to attract strong interest from across the city. He said organisers are delighted to bring Theroux to Dundee and encouraged audiences to secure their tickets early, adding that it is a rare opportunity to hear one of Britain’s most distinctive journalistic voices speak live.

Over the years Theroux has won numerous awards for his work, including three BAFTAs, an RTS award and the Grierson Trustees’ Award. Alongside his documentaries he has also written books and hosts the BBC Sounds podcast Grounded with Louis Theroux, where he speaks with well-known guests about life, work and current issues.

An Evening with Louis Theroux takes place at the Caird Hall on 21 May with tickets on sale now at the Dundee Box Office.
