IKEA announces March 23 as new opening date

A new opening date has been confirmed for IKEA’s highly anticipated Dundee store, following a short delay earlier this week. The retailer has announced that the store will now open its doors on 23 March.

The opening had originally been scheduled for 19 March but was postponed due to a delay in receiving the required Certificate of Occupation.

IKEA confirmed at the time that its team was working quickly to resolve the issue, with hopes of welcoming customers as soon as possible.

That issue now appears to have been addressed, allowing the launch to move ahead just days later than planned. The Dundee site, located at Kingsway West Retail Park, is now preparing to officially welcome visitors for the first time.

The new store will introduce a different IKEA experience to the city, focused on planning and design rather than traditional in-store browsing. Customers will be able to book free consultations with specialists to design kitchens, bedrooms and living spaces, or use self-service tools to plan their own layouts.

Inside, visitors can expect a curated showroom featuring kitchen displays, wardrobe solutions and a dedicated planning area designed to help maximise space in the home.

While the full IKEA range will not be available to take away, customers can order from the entire catalogue for home delivery or collection.

The Dundee location will also serve as a collection and returns point for online orders, alongside offering a selection of home accessories available for immediate purchase.

The opening is part of IKEA’s wider expansion strategy across the UK, bringing its services closer to where people live and work.

With the delay now resolved, attention turns to the official launch on 23 March, with customers in Dundee set to get their first look inside the new concept store.
