There’s no better way to take in the sights and stories of Dundee than from the top deck of the city’s only open-top sightseeing bus.
Here is everything you need to know about the Discover Dundee bus tour when it returns to the city streets this week!
When are the tour buses running?
The Discover Dundee tour is returning for the 2025 season, running from 21 May to 28 September, and it’s ready to give both locals and visitors a new perspective on the City of Discovery.
Operating every Wednesday to Sunday, the service offers hourly departures between 10am and 5pm, starting at the iconic Discovery Point just outside the V&A and Dundee’s railway station.
From there, the bus loops through the city, offering stunning views, engaging commentary and the chance to hop on and off as you explore Dundee at your leisure.
How long does the tour last?
The tour lasts up to 50 minutes if you choose to stay on board the whole time, but it’s designed to be flexible.
You can step off whenever you fancy visiting one of the many attractions along the route - whether that’s heading up Dundee Law for panoramic views, strolling through the city centre, or taking in the riverside sights.
With an open upper deck, this tour is perfect for soaking in Dundee’s surprisingly sunny weather—it averages more than 1,500 hours of sunshine a year.
But if the rain rolls in, don’t worry: the front section of the top deck is covered, so you can still enjoy the ride without braving the elements.
Where does the tour go past?
Many amazing Dundee landmarks! From historic landmarks to modern marvels, the route includes views of the V&A Dundee, Discovery Point, Dundee Law, the McManus Galleries, and more.
What is the audio commentary?
One of the highlights of the Discover Dundee experience is its engaging audio guide. Plug in your own headphones or use a complimentary pair provided on the bus, and you’ll be treated to an entertaining mix of narration, sound effects, music and fun facts.
The commentary brings Dundee’s history and personality to life, with local voices guiding you through everything from the city’s famous “Three Js” to its surprising international connections with cities like Berlin and Singapore.
What’s more, your ticket gives you access not just to the tour bus, but to the entire Xplore Dundee network for the day. That means you can easily jump on a regular service to venture out to Broughty Ferry or other parts of the city—all included in the price.
Buses are fully accessible, with a low-floor entrance and space for a wheelchair or up to two unfolded buggies. At Discovery Point, between trips, one of the friendly drivers is always around to offer help, answer questions or sell tickets.
Where can I purchase tickets?
Tickets can be purchased on the bus using cash or contactless payment, or you can grab one in advance via the Xplore Dundee app.
How much are the tickets?
Adult – £12
Child (5–15 years) – £6
Concession – £9
Family (2 adults + 3 children) – £26
Under 5s – FREE
Whether you’re discovering Dundee for the first time or rediscovering it with fresh eyes, the open-top tour is an unmissable way to experience the city’s landmarks, stories and views.
So get ready to climb aboard, sit back, and see the city from a whole new angle.
