A new beach toy library has been unveiled on Broughty Ferry sands, offering free access to toys for families and helping ensure every child can enjoy a day at the beach this summer.
Located near the beach's car park, the community-led initiative allows children to borrow buckets, spades and other beach toys at no cost, removing a barrier for families who may not be able to afford them.
The project has been delivered by the Broughty Ferry Traders Association in partnership with Plastic Free Broughty Ferry, alongside support from Dundee City Council environmental officers. As well as promoting sustainability and reuse, organisers say accessibility and inclusion have been at the heart of the idea.
By making toys freely available, the library aims to ensure that no child misses out on simple seaside experiences, from building sandcastles to playing along the shore.
It also encourages a shared sense of responsibility, with visitors asked to return items after use so others can benefit.
The toy library itself is housed in a bespoke cabinet, crafted by Broughty Ferry Men’s Shed and painted by local artist Bogusia Misztal, creating a bright and welcoming feature on the beach.
Toys have been generously donated by local business Nickel and Dime, helping to stock the library for the busy summer months ahead. Organisers are also encouraging members of the public to donate any spare beach toys to keep the initiative going.
Sandro Paladini of the BFTA Tourism team said the group is committed to supporting the beach and its visitors, adding that the collaboration reflects a shared effort to improve amenities for the whole community.
With families expected to flock to Broughty Ferry during the warmer months, the beach toy library is being welcomed as a simple but meaningful addition that combines accessibility, sustainability and community spirit in one place.
