More than 3,000 young people across Dundee have received their SQA exam results today, marking another year of academic achievements for high school pupils in the city.

Dundee City Council has reported that in total, 16,428 SQA qualifications were awarded this year, representing an increase from 14,956 in the previous year. These qualifications span a range of levels including National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher.

The increase highlights the continued efforts of pupils, supported by schools and families, as they plan their next steps in education, training or work.

Among the achievements, 1,220 S4 pupils gained at least one qualification at National 5 level (SCQF Level 5), and 112 of them secured six National 5s at Grade A. In addition, 28 S4 pupils completed a Higher earlier than is typically expected, suggesting early advancement in their learning.

S5 results also showed strong outcomes, with 735 pupils achieving one or more Highers at Grades A to C, and 172 earning five Highers – a benchmark often linked to university entry. Meanwhile, 288 young people were awarded at least one Advanced Higher qualification, which is typically undertaken in S6.

Across Scotland, the picture is equally positive. Exam pass rates have risen nationally, the attainment gap between the most and least advantaged pupils has continued to narrow, and a record number of young people are set to secure a place at university – signalling progress towards greater educational equity.

The wider trends mirror Dundee’s local achievements, reinforcing a positive outlook for education in 2025.

Results were sent by post and text/email to candidates who signed up to MySQA, though delays in some areas were reported due to Storm Floris.

Support and advice remain available through schools, the SQA Candidate Advice Line, and the Skills Development Scotland helpline.
