Dundee’s West End has been named one of the coolest places to live in Scotland, according to a new feature highlighted by the Daily Record.
The area, which stretches from the city centre towards the River Tay, was praised for its mix of stylish cafés, shops, bars and restaurants. It was also recognised for its popularity with students, thanks to its close ties to the University of Dundee’s main campus and its central location along Perth Road.
Among the food and drink venues that stand out in the West End are Mexican restaurant Màs, known for its tacos and margaritas, and Pacamara Food and Drink, a popular brunch spot. Both have become favourites for locals and visitors alike.
The neighbourhood is also rich in green spaces. Magdalen Green, Dundee’s oldest park, remains a focal point for community life with its Victorian bandstand still hosting concerts. Close by are Balgay Park and Balgay Hill, home to Mills Observatory.
Nature and science meet again at the Dundee Botanic Garden, maintained by the university, which offers a wide collection of plants and peaceful walking paths. The Whitehall Theatre also adds to the area’s cultural scene, giving residents easy access to live entertainment.
The Daily Record notes that the West End’s mix of culture, food, history and green space is what makes it stand out. It was previously ranked as the number one place to live in Scotland by The Sunday Times, further cementing its reputation as a sought-after part of the city.
