A major step forward in the fight against addiction has been announced for Dundee, as Social Bite confirms Mill o’ Mains as the intended location for its new Recovery Village.
Set to be built on the site of the former Mill o’ Mains Bowling Club, the village will be named the Bill Sword Social Bite Recovery Village, honouring a key supporter of the charity’s mission.
The development is designed to support individuals on their journey to long-term recovery from addiction, providing a safe, supervised community focused on healing, independence, and opportunity.
Social Bite, widely recognised for its groundbreaking work across Scotland tackling homelessness and addiction, described the new Dundee project as a “much needed” initiative at a crucial time for the city.
Between 2018 and 2022, Dundee had the second highest drug misuse death rate in Scotland – with 43.1 deaths per 100,000 people.
The Recovery Village aims to directly address the deep-rooted challenges behind such statistics, offering not only hope, but a practical path to transformation.
The site has been selected as the ideal location for what Social Bite describes as a “beautiful, purpose-built facility,” specifically designed to support people in need of stability and care.
Local residents are being encouraged to learn more and get involved as the project progresses.
To that end, Social Bite will be hosting a series of community information sessions in the area to answer questions and provide updates. These sessions are open to all:
Thursday 10th July, 9am – 12pm at The Lounge at the Finmill Centre, Findcastle Street, DD4 9EW
Wednesday 16th July, 1pm – 4pm at The Lounge at the Finmill Centre, Findcastle Street, DD4 9EW
No
Local people are invited to drop in at any point during the sessions to speak with members of the Social Bite team, learn more about the vision for the Recovery Village, and raise any queries or thoughts they may have.
