Dundee’s days are rapidly getting longer as the city moves through March, with the first sunset after 8pm of the year now just weeks away.

On 15 March, Dundee experiences around 11 hours and 47 minutes of daylight between sunrise and sunset. But as spring approaches, daylight hours are increasing steadily across the city.

By 20 March, which also marks the spring equinox when day and night are nearly equal across the globe, Dundee will see daylight stretch to around 12 hours and 11 minutes.

Just five days later on 25 March, the city will enjoy approximately 12 hours and 35 minutes of daylight, continuing the steady lengthening of the day as winter recedes.

By 30 March, Dundee will have almost 13 hours of daylight, with sunrise arriving earlier and sunset pushing later into the evening.

The clocks also change at the end of March as the UK moves to British Summer Time, shifting sunset times an hour later on the clock and helping to extend evening daylight further.

All of this leads to a seasonal milestone on 6 April, when the sun will set after 8pm in Dundee for the first time this year.

Compared to mid-March, the city will have gained around 1 hour and 44 minutes of additional daylight by that point, marking a clear shift into the brighter days of spring.

For many people across Dundee, the longer evenings signal the return of outdoor activities, walks along the waterfront, and the gradual build-up to the long summer days still to come.
