Dundee law firm Blackadders is to donate £34,000 to Maggie’s Centres across Scotland after a major year of fundraising for the cancer support charity.
The law firm adopted Maggie’s as its Charity of the Year for 2025, with staff from all offices taking part in events and challenges throughout the year.
Teams across Dundee, Aberdeen, Glasgow and beyond raised around £24,000 through activities including Kiltwalks, firewalks, bake sales and office-based fundraising events.
Blackadders then boosted the total with an additional £10,000 donation from the firm, taking the final figure to £34,000.
Emma Gray, Joint Managing Partner at Blackadders, praised the effort from staff, saying the firm aims to be at the heart of the communities it serves.
She said the team had fully embraced the challenge of supporting a charity that helps people and families affected by cancer at some of the most difficult times in their lives.
Alongside fundraising, Blackadders’ Private Client solicitors have also been providing practical support directly at Maggie’s Centres in Dundee, Aberdeen and Glasgow.
Over the past year, the team prepared tens of thousands of pounds worth of Wills free of charge for people living with cancer, helping individuals and families gain peace of mind.
Solicitors attended the centres monthly to offer advice on complex personal situations and to draft Wills and Powers of Attorney, often working to tight timescales.
The aim was to ensure people could focus on their health and wellbeing while their legal affairs were handled quickly and sensitively.
Laura McDowall, Head of the Private Client Team, described the work as humbling and emotional, adding that the team had been inspired by the people they met.
She said it was rewarding to support Maggie’s both through fundraising and by offering a free Will service to centre users.
Annie Long, Centre Fundraising Manager for Maggie’s in Dundee, said the generosity of Blackadders had helped the charity provide emotional care on nearly 50,000 occasions across four Scottish centres.
