Celebrations announced to mark Tay Road Bridge’s 60th anniversary

A day of family fun, vintage transport and historic boat trips has been announced as celebrations get underway to mark the 60th anniversary of one of Scotland's most iconic landmarks - the Tay Road Bridge.
The Tay Road Bridge Joint Board will host a special Family Fun Day on Saturday 15 August, bringing together a packed programme of activities celebrating six decades since the bridge officially opened in 1966 and transformed travel between Dundee and Fife.
Taking place from 10am until 3.30pm in the Tay Road Bridge Fife Car Park, the free event will feature vintage vehicle displays, vintage bus trips, children's entertainment, food and soft drinks, alongside a free circular shuttle bus operating from Dundee to the event site.
One of the highlights of the anniversary celebrations will be the opportunity to step back in time and experience the River Tay as people once did before the bridge existed. From 3.30pm, the Tay Road Bridge Joint Board is inviting people to register for free 20-minute boat trips aboard working boats from David Anderson Marine at the Old Ferry Pier in Newport-on-Tay.
Departing from the original slipway once used by The Fifie before the Tay Road Bridge was built, the trips will allow visitors to relive a unique part of local history and experience the crossing that once connected communities on either side of the River Tay.
The anniversary celebrations are designed to commemorate not only the remarkable engineering achievement of the Tay Road Bridge, but also the role it has played in connecting people, businesses and communities over the past 60 years.
Since opening in August 1966, the bridge has become one of Scotland's most recognisable structures, carrying millions of journeys across the River Tay and serving as a defining feature of the Dundee skyline.
Whether exploring vintage transport, enjoying the family entertainment or taking to the water to experience life before the bridge, the Family Fun Day promises to offer a fitting celebration of one of the region's most significant landmarks.
