Dundee just got featured in the Daily Mirror - and they heaped nothing but praise for the city’s change

Dundee has found itself in the national spotlight once again, this time thanks to a glowing travel piece in the Daily Mirror that paints a vivid picture of a transformed city.

Travel writer Fiona Whitty’s feature, published at the weekend, charts her journey from London to Dundee and documents what she describes as a complete change in perception.

The article takes readers on a tour of Dundee’s historic and modern-day highlights — from iconic ships like RRS Discovery and HMS Unicorn, to the sleek silhouette of V&A Dundee, which Whitty credits as a symbol of the city’s reinvention.

Whitty praises the £1 billion waterfront regeneration project and the impact of Kengo Kuma’s architectural marvel, noting that the museum’s atrium “whips your breath away.”

Her visit coincided with a Shylight installation, adding a touch of poetry to the space. Upstairs, she explores Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s Oak Room and a nature-themed exhibition that’s currently drawing attention.

Beyond architecture and exhibitions, the article dives into local flavour - literally.

From the V&A’s Taste of Tayside afternoon tea to brunch at Empire State Coffee and tapas at Gallery 48, the food scene features prominently.

She even highlights locally infused gins, including one named after marmalade pioneer James Keiller.

The article doesn’t shy away from the city’s industrial past either.

Recounting the days of “Juteopolis” and the Keiller marmalade legacy, The Mirror reminds readers of the three historic Js — jute, jam and journalism — before declaring that today’s J’s might just be “journeys, joy and jaw-dropping design.”

Whitty and her husband’s journey on the Caledonian Sleeper up to Dundee and the LNER route back south framed the trip neatly - a full-circle exploration of a city she suggests is well worth waking up for. “Dundee ‘jammed’ in the middle,” she writes, might just offer the best of all worlds.

I really enjoyed this! Dundee’s evolution is truly remarkable. It serves as a fantastic illustration of how cities can renew themselves and stand out internationally. It reminds me of the topics I discuss in international economics assignment help—true change happening!
