Dundee has been named the most peaceful city in the UK, according to a new nationwide study.
The research was carried out by UK-based room aroma retailer Room Aromas, which analysed cities across the country to understand how calm or stressful daily life may feel depending on where people live.
The study looked at a range of factors including air quality, population size, nearby airport activity and access to walking tours. Data was gathered from 2024 to 2025 and sourced from organisations including IQAir, Tripadvisor and World Population Review.
Each factor was weighted equally and combined to produce an overall score out of 100, with higher scores indicating more peaceful environments. Dundee topped the list with a score of 70.08.
Researchers highlighted the city’s relatively small population of just over 147,700, excellent air quality with an Air Quality Index of 6, and limited airport activity, with only two airports nearby.
A spokesperson said Dundee reflects what many people look for when they think about peaceful living, pointing to less congestion, lower noise levels and more space to breathe, while still offering the benefits of city life.
