Dundee’s own Sheli McCoy has taken home the BAFTA Scotland Audience Award for 2025 following her standout performances as Sabre on the hit BBC series Gladiators.

Voted for entirely by the public, the award marks a major moment for the rising star and a proud achievement for her home city.

Sheli has quickly become a fan favourite on Gladiators, known for her strength, determination and on-screen charisma.

Her win not only recognises her success on the show but also highlights the growing visibility of Dundee talent on a national stage.

Her victory comes in a year that also featured fellow nominee Ncuti Gatwa, who started out in Dundee at the Rep before launching his acclaimed acting career.

With both names in contention, this year’s shortlist demonstrated the city’s remarkable contribution to the arts and entertainment industry.

The Audience Award is considered one of the most meaningful accolades of BAFTA Scotland’s ceremony because it is chosen by viewers themselves. For Sheli, it represents the admiration and support of thousands who have followed her journey on screen.

Her success continues to shine a spotlight on Dundee’s growing list of creative talent making waves across the UK. As her career continues to rise, Sheli’s win is likely to inspire many more young Dundonians to dream big.
