Dundee Designer Christmas Trees have returned for a third year

This festive season, Dundee’s Designer Christmas Trees are once again lighting up the city, blending creativity with sustainability.

Celebrating Dundee’s UNESCO City of Design status, the project—launched in 2022 as part of the city’s festive celebrations with Dundee City Council—features innovative trees made entirely from reused or recycled materials.

Since its inception, 13 unique designs have been commissioned, each showcasing the ingenuity of local designers while addressing pressing environmental issues.

New for 2024, Silent Night, Holy Bike by Camillo Atlas and local pupils transforms discarded bike parts into a striking tree, teaching students practical metalwork skills.

Ruby Coyne’s A Fast Fashion Christmas repurposes unwanted textiles to highlight the wastefulness of the fashion industry, while Steve Page’s Adrift uses shoreline materials to draw attention to ocean pollution and celebrate 200 years of the RNLI.

Meanwhile, Cone Home for Christmas by Jolene Guthrie stacks vibrant knitting spools, sparking conversations about waste in the fashion industry.

Returning favourites include Retro Celebrations made from aluminium cans, Make Trees Trees Again! built from skateboards, and the deforestation-inspired Absentree.

Each design not only adds festive cheer but also showcases Dundee’s commitment to using design to solve problems and promote sustainability.

As the UK’s only UNESCO City of Design, Dundee continues to use its creative talents to inspire change. Visitors can experience these imaginative displays throughout the city, celebrating the season while reflecting on how design can build a brighter, more sustainable future.
