Dundee Cycle Hub to become Forks café in new city centre shift

A well-known Dundee waterfront venue is entering a new chapter as Dundee Cycle Hub rebrands as Forks, with a stronger focus on café culture and bike hire at its Waterfront Place base.

The change comes as the hub’s core maintenance and technical services move to the new Green Travel Hub on Bell Street. Until now, the waterfront site combined a workshop, kiosk and café, but that side of the operation is now being transferred to the larger city centre facility.

In its place, the rebranded Forks will aim to create a more relaxed and welcoming environment for cyclists, visitors and people exploring the waterfront. The space is being redesigned to feel more homely, with deep leather sofas, greenery and fairy lights replacing the more functional workshop setting that had previously defined the venue.

Its position beside the River Tay is expected to remain one of its biggest attractions. A window seat looking out across the water is likely to become a standout feature for customers, particularly with the V&A Dundee and wider waterfront area continuing to draw both locals and tourists.

Although bike repairs are leaving the waterfront site, cycling will still remain central to what Forks offers. The venue will continue to provide bike and e-bike rentals, giving people another way to explore Dundee, the coastline and nearby paths from one of the city’s most visible visitor locations.

The wider shift is part of a broader strategy by Angus Cycle Hub CIC to bring its professional cycling services together at Bell Street. The new £14 million Green Travel Hub will become the main base for bike servicing, sales, refurbished bikes, secure 24-hour cycle parking and community-focused programmes, including a bike reuse centre and an indoor bike skills park due to fully launch later this year.

Scott Francis, director of Angus Cycle Hub CIC, said the move would help support the social enterprise’s long-term sustainability while keeping the waterfront site as a vibrant destination in its own right. Forks is expected to complete its rebrand and facelift in late March 2026, around the same time as the Bell Street facility’s grand opening on 28 March.
