Dundee Culture founder Andrew Batchelor speaks at Turning Point Scotland’s Dundee link-up

Dundee Culture founder Andrew Batchelor has spoken about his experiences of living with disabilities and building the platform during a special event with Turning Point Scotland in Dundee.

The talk took place at Dudhope Castle on Tuesday afternoon, where Andrew was invited to speak as part of a session organised by Turning Point Scotland.

Turning Point Scotland supports adults facing complex needs and challenging life situations across Scotland, providing a wide range of services and support within communities.

During the presentation, Andrew spoke openly about growing up with disabilities, the challenges and assumptions he has faced, and how those experiences have shaped both his life and his work.

He also shared the story of Dundee Culture, from starting the platform at a young age to developing it into one of the city’s most prominent independent cultural and community platforms.

Andrew said: “What an absolutely rewarding afternoon at Dudhope Castle talking to the amazing folks at Turning Point Scotland.

“It means so much to me to be able to tell my story of living with disabilities and also how that connects with the work I do with Dundee Culture.

“I really enjoyed being able to speak openly about some of my experiences, where Dundee Culture came from and some of the things I’ve learned along the way.

“Thank you to Jude and the amazing team at Turning Point Scotland for inviting me. It was a great afternoon.”

The engagement forms part of Andrew’s growing interest in keynote and public speaking, particularly around disability, culture, place, digital media and his experiences developing Dundee Culture.

He is now actively seeking further speaking opportunities at conferences, events, organisations and community settings, particularly those focusing on culture, the arts, disability and related themes.
