Dundee City Council has issued an important update ahead of the upcoming Discovery Festival, with a number of major road closures and diversions planned across the city centre and waterfront from Tuesday 22 July to Sunday 27 July.
The three-day festival, taking place at Slessor Gardens, will see headline acts including Ocean Colour Scene, 80s Calling! and Sir Tom Jones.
To support the event’s setup, safety and clear-up, several key roads in and around the city centre will be closed, with specific restrictions varying each day of the festival.
Thomson Avenue and Dock Street will be closed on all three event days - Friday 25, Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 July - at different times.
Nethergate will also be affected, with access limited to buses and taxis travelling eastbound between West Marketgait and Whitehall Street during key periods.
On Friday 25 July, ahead of Ocean Colour Scene’s performance, closures will be in place from 4pm to midnight.
On Saturday 26 July, when the 80s Calling! concert takes place, the restrictions begin earlier at 11.30am and remain until midnight. Sir Tom Jones headlines on Sunday 27 July, with road closures starting at 2pm.
To assist with safe movement around the city, diversions will be clearly marked using the inner ring road via South Marketgait, West Marketgait, North Marketgait and East Marketgait.
Bus users are being advised that some city centre stops will be temporarily relocated during the closures, and should check with operators for the latest information.
In addition to the event-day restrictions, several streets surrounding Slessor Gardens will be closed for five working days from Tuesday 22 July to Monday 28 July.
These include Earl Grey Place East and West, South Castle Street and South Crichton Street. These closures will allow for the festival’s setup and site clearance.
Dundee City Council has published a full map of all closures and diversions on its website to help residents, motorists and visitors plan ahead.
The Discovery Festival is being delivered by the Liz Hobbs Group and is expected to draw large crowds over the weekend.
People travelling into Dundee during the festival are encouraged to leave extra time for their journeys and consider alternative routes where possible.
