Broughty Ferry is getting its own weekly parkrun as plans unveiled

Broughty Ferry is set to join the worldwide parkrun community, with a brand-new weekly event planned to begin this spring.

The free 5k run will take place every Saturday morning, offering residents and visitors another reason to head outdoors and stay active.

Parkrun events are known for bringing people of all ages and abilities together.

Whether participants choose to run, jog or walk, the focus is on community and wellbeing rather than competition.

Each event is organised locally by volunteers, helping to create a welcoming atmosphere from start to finish.

What is the route of the new parkrun?

The new Broughty Ferry route is expected to begin at the Esplanade playing fields before following the coastal path towards the caravan park at Monifieth Beach.

Participants will then turn and retrace their steps back to the starting point, taking in views across the Tay along the way.

Dundee City Council has approved the plans after reviewing arrangements around parking, waste management and shared use of the path.

Funding from the Common Good Fund has been secured to support the launch and cover initial costs. Organisers will keep a close eye on how the event settles into the area once it begins.

The addition of a Broughty Ferry event means the area will join other established parkruns across the local area, including the popular Dundee gathering at Camperdown Country Park.

The Camperdown course attracts hundreds of runners and walkers each week, completing a scenic loop through the park’s grounds.

With a seaside setting and strong local backing, the Broughty Ferry parkrun is expected to become a regular fixture in the community calendar.

A confirmed launch date is expected in the coming weeks, with the first runners likely to line up at 9.30am on a Saturday morning this spring.
