Updated: Dec 5, 2024

Blackscroft is set to undergo an exciting regeneration project in Dundee as Wilson Paul Architects release images and proposals of how the derelict site will be transformed.

Wilson Paul Architects revealed plans which includes the construction of new housing and a new recreational park alongside the renovation of the derelicted Blackscroft Library.

Blackscroft is located at the back of Gallagher Retail Park, next to Foundry Lane, and is situated nearby to the forthcoming Eden Project site which is due to open in the next decade.

The plans are being spearheaded by Blackscroft Property Group and planning is currently in the consultation stage, with further considerations set to take place in the new year.

So what will the new regeneration project comprise of? Let’s take a look!

The Reading Rooms

The proposals include a transformed Blackscroft Library into a new restaurant going by the name The Reading Rooms, which takes inspiration from the former nightclub that used to occupy the site.

The new restaurant will have a rooftop extension, expected to be hotel rooms, which will have views looking out to the area, which will include the future Eden Project site.

Alongside this, the nearby Blackscroft Church will be transformed into seven affordable apartments.

Blackscroft Park

Blackscroft Park is the micro park. It will feature recreational facilities as well as pocket parks, community gardens within the boundary of the park.

The park has a separate planning application lodged.

Blackscroft Apartments

24 apartments are set to be constructed on the site, meeting the demands for further housing in the city.

A design statement that was published alongside the proposals stated that “the development will help meet the demand for city centre living while protecting and repurposing historical buildings like St Roque’s Library and Blackscroft Church.”

“By converting brownfield sites into high-quality, modern living spaces, the project aims to contribute to the broader regeneration of Dundee and provide much-needed housing within the city.”
