Dundee figure skaters Anastasia Vaipan-Law and Luke Digby have completed their first-ever skate at the Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina, marking a huge milestone in their careers and a proud moment for the city.
The pair scored 57.29 in their opening programme. A setback on the ice made it a challenging skate, but simply stepping onto Olympic ice for the first time is an achievement few athletes ever reach.
Competing at the Olympics brings pressure unlike anything else in sport. Performing on the world’s biggest stage, in front of a global audience, and finishing the programme shows resilience, professionalism and determination.
Messages of encouragement
Supporters from Dundee and across the country have rallied behind the duo, flooding social media with messages of encouragement and pride following the skate.
This moment is just one chapter in a much bigger journey. Focus now turns to the next skate, with lessons learned and confidence built from their Olympic debut.
Dundee and the whole of the country are right behind Anastasia and Luke. No matter the score, this is a remarkable achievement and one they should be incredibly proud of.
