A major new hub designed to help technology startups grow has opened in Dundee, as Scotland’s flagship Techscaler programme continues to attract millions in investment.
First Minister John Swinney visited Water’s Edge in Dundee to mark the launch of the new Techscaler hub, which will support entrepreneurs and early-stage companies across the Tay Cities region.
The programme, backed by the Scottish Government, helps founders develop new businesses by providing mentorship, training and access to investors.
New figures released alongside the launch show that founders involved in the programme have raised a combined £257 million since Techscaler began in 2022.
More than 1,500 companies and over 2,000 members are now part of the network across Scotland, highlighting the growing demand for support for technology startups.
The Dundee hub is expected to play an important role in supporting the city’s thriving technology and gaming sector.
Several young studios have already been selected as part of the first cohort based at Water’s Edge, including Fish Tin Games, Shouty Knot, Umbra Dynamics, Fochram Arts and JBSB Studios.
John Swinney said the initiative is designed to strengthen Scotland’s entrepreneurial environment and give founders the skills and connections needed to build globally competitive companies.
He said the new Dundee hub would become a vibrant space for entrepreneurs and help create economic opportunities for technology companies across the region.
Jon Hope, interim chief executive of CodeBase, the organisation delivering Techscaler, said the new base at Water’s Edge will help accelerate high-growth companies by connecting them with experienced mentors, investors and international networks.
Chris van der Kuyl, chairman of Dundee-based game developer 4J Studios, said the launch represents a major vote of confidence in the city.
He said Dundee already has a strong ecosystem of technology companies and talent, and that the new hub will give founders an increased chance of success as they build and scale their businesses.
