A new pop-up sauna tent could be set up near Broughty Castle, according to a recent planning application submitted to Dundee City Council. The proposal comes as part of wider efforts to boost visitor numbers to the popular local attraction.
The planning documents, published by the council’s planning department, show that tent would be placed on a grassy patch within the castle ground - land owned by Historic Environment Scotland - and operated by an independent provider.
According to the council papers, the sauna tent would be available to the public seven days a week, running from 8am until 9pm.
Customers would book and pay for their session online, with up to ten people able to use the facility at once. The structure, described as 2 metres in height and requiring around 4 square metres of space, would be set up and taken down daily.
The proposal is currently undergoing a public consultation, which will remain open until 17 June. Council planners say the idea forms part of a broader set of initiatives aimed at encouraging more people to visit Broughty Ferry and make better use of the area around the historic castle.
