A new exhibition by the University of Dundee is set to pounce on the curiosity of animal lovers and history enthusiasts alike.

Cats: From Predators to Pets, which will open at the University of Dundee’s Tower Building on 4 July, takes visitors on a fascinating journey through the evolution of the feline-human relationship, showing how these once-wild hunters became the household companions we adore today.

Running Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 7pm (last entry at 5pm) up until September, the exhibition brings together artworks, artefacts and preserved specimens to tell the story of cats across cultures and centuries.

From prowling the jungles to curling up on living room sofas, cats have held many roles - sacred symbols in ancient temples, playful characters in nursery rhymes, agile performers in circuses and, more recently, icons of internet culture.

Whether you’re a devoted cat person or simply curious, the exhibition highlights the adaptability, mystique and enduring charm of one of the world’s most beloved animals. Visitors can explore the wild origins of domestic cats, their roles in different societies, and how their behaviour still reflects their predator past.

Playful, informative and rich in detail, Cats: From Predators to Pets invites all to discover the untamed spirit behind the purr.
